Sam Robinson completed a BSc(Hons) in biomedical science at the University of Auckland (New Zealand), where he developed an interest in toxinology. He pursued his interest in this field, undertaking a PhD at Monash University (Australia) under the supervision of Prof. Ray Norton and a postdoc at the University of Utah (USA) with Toto Olivera, training in a broad range of techniques including, transcriptomics, proteomics, peptide chemistry, pharmacology and structural biology. In 2017 he returned to Australia to establish an independent research program at the University of Queensland’s Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB). His research focuses on the discovery of pain-causing toxins from plant and animal venoms, and their use as tools to uncover new components of human pain signalling.
