Peptide based hydrogen sulfide responsive nanostructures for biomedical applications (#206)
Stimuli responsive short peptide based soft structures have shown potential applications in the biomedical field. We have synthesized hydrogen sulfide (H2S) responsive aromatic rich tripeptide conjugate which can self-assemble into fascinating spherical capsules like nanostructures. These nanostructures can change their morphology into well-defined fibers in the presence of H2S thus can be considered as a self-immolative molecule. These nanocapsules are successfully loaded with antibiotic drugs followed by their delivery in H2S releasing clinically relevant bacterial cultures, to check antibacterial resistivity against delivered antibiotics. We anticipate that the facile delivery of antibiotics with the help of such nanocarriers at target site could open up new opportunities for constructing biosignal-triggered nanocapsules for intracellular applications.
